Also known as "holy wood," is renowned for its sweet and uplifting fragrance, and it is often burned as incense during rituals, ceremonies, and meditation.
The smoke is used to cleanse and purify spaces, dispelling negative energy while promoting a sense of tranquillity and connection to the sacred.
Additionally, Palo Santo is considered a sustainable and ethically harvested resource, contributing to its cultural and spiritual significance.
How to Use Palo Santo
- Find a Fireproof Bowl or Shell: Choose a safe place to put the stick and catch any embers. Abalone shells are traditionally used, but any ceramic or metal bowl will work.
- Light the Stick: Hold the Palo Santo stick at a slight angle and light the end with a candle or lighter. Let it burn for about 30 seconds to a minute.
- Extinguish the Flame: Gently blow out the flame. The stick will continue to burn, producing a steady stream of fragrant smoke.
- Cleanse Your Space: Walk around the area you wish to cleanse. You can use your hand or a feather to guide the smoke into corners, around furniture, and anywhere you feel energy has become stagnant.
- Cleanse Yourself or Objects: Gently pass the smoke over your body from head to toe, or over an object you wish to purify, such as crystals, jewelry, or tools.
- Extinguish Completely: Once you are finished, place the stick in your fireproof bowl and let it extinguish on its own. It will likely stop smoking on its own after a few minutes, but always ensure it's completely out before leaving it unattended
